Central to this initiative is the expansion of the national fiber optic network to reach 100,000 kilometers, significantly enhancing high-speed internet connectivity nationwide. Alongside this, the Authority aims to establish 25,000 public WiFi hotspots, making digital services more accessible and convenient for communities across the country.
Beyond infrastructure, the ICT Authority is committed to fostering digital literacy and skills development in partnership with industry players. These programs will equip citizens with the necessary knowledge and tools to actively participate in Kenya’s growing digital economy, opening up new opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and social engagement.
In addition to connectivity and skills, the Authority emphasizes responsible digital practices. Initiatives to promote data privacy, responsible data management, and efforts to minimize environmental impacts—including e-waste reduction—are integral to their strategy for a sustainable ICT sector.
Recognizing the importance of collaboration, the ICT Authority underscores that strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, development partners, and the private sector are essential for building an inclusive, innovative, and environmentally sustainable digital landscape in Kenya. These combined efforts aim to ensure that the benefits of digital growth reach all Kenyans and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
