Zambia’s Smart Institute targets digital sovereignty

11 November 2025

Zambia’s e-government agency, the SMART Zambia Institute, has partnered with Inq and Mezzanine to promote and enhance local digital sovereignty, a move announced during the Digital Government Africa 2025 conference held in Lusaka.

The collaboration centres on deploying Mezzanine’s Helium Platform to establish scalable, secure, and fully locally hosted digital infrastructure across the country. This initiative aims to provide Zambia with predictable and accountable digital services, supported by service-level agreements denominated in local currency.

The partnership brings together Zambia’s own digital institutions with Mezzanine’s extensive experience in deploying platforms within constrained environments, ensuring solutions are tailored to the country’s specific needs.
