New infrastructure will boost digital transformation and strengthen scientific research in Mozambique.
Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) writes a new chapter in its technological history with the inauguration of its modern Data Centre, an infrastructure designed to meet the growing demands of higher education, scientific research, and the digital transformation of the country.
More than an investment in equipment, the new Data Centre represents the construction of a platform for the future, capable of supporting innovation, ensuring information security, and accelerating the production of knowledge for the benefit of Mozambican society.
Implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation, through the MozSkills Project, with funding from the World Bank, the Data Centre comes at a time when universities worldwide increasingly rely on robust digital infrastructures to ensure the continuity of academic, scientific, and administrative activities.
At UEM, the new infrastructure consolidates a tradition started decades ago by the Informatics Centre (CIUEM), a pioneer institution in the introduction of the Internet in Mozambique and in the development of national digital services.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Prof. Dr. Américo Muchanga, clarified that the installation of the Data Centre at UEM results from the recognition of the technical capacity, institutional credibility, and accumulated experience of the University in managing digital infrastructures of national interest.
According to the official, the choice was not circumstantial, but based on the historical role played by UEM in training highly qualified human resources, expanding Internet access, and providing technological services that benefit not only the academic community, but all of Mozambican society.
