Kenya is making a significant stride toward integrated digital development, as the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, H.E. William Kabogo Gitau, alongside Governor Wisley Rotich, Chair of the ICT and Knowledge Management Committee at the Council of Governors (COG), signed a series of resolutions with county governments following the ICT Intergovernmental Sector Forum. This move marks a major step in fostering closer coordination between national and county governments in the ICT sector.

The resolutions aim to harmonize wayleave and licensing frameworks, bolster the protection of critical digital infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity collaboration, and fast-track the implementation of the Kenya National Digital Master Plan. These initiatives are designed to reduce deployment costs for ICT infrastructure, improve service delivery, and promote inclusive digital transformation across all 47 counties.

The Kenyan government reiterated its commitment to building a coordinated, secure, and investor-friendly digital ecosystem that delivers real value to citizens, businesses, and communities nationwide. By fostering a unified approach to ICT development, Kenya aims to accelerate its digital economy and ensure equitable access to technology-driven opportunities.

Key officials present at the signing included Principal Secretaries Eng. John Tanui (ICT and Digital Economy) and Mr. Michael Lenasalon (Devolution), Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Ochieng Owili, IGRTC Chairman CPA Kithinji Kiragu, Hon. Kizito Wangalwa (Director of Committees and Programmes at COG), and Mr. Jonam Kinama (Secretary of Administration, State Department for ICT and Digital Economy).

This collaborative effort underscores Kenya’s dedication to creating a resilient, secure, and inclusive digital future, leveraging intergovernmental cooperation to unlock the full potential of its digital economy.
