The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has expanded its footprint into West Africa with the launch of LINX Accra, now live within the recently inaugurated Digital Realty ACR2 data centre in Ghana.
This development marks a significant enhancement in internet connectivity across the region. Digital Realty introduced its ACR2 facility in October, a cutting-edge data centre strategically situated near several submarine cable landing stations in downtown Accra, designed to support robust digital infrastructure.
Within the new facility, LINX’s engineering team has successfully installed the LINX Accra interconnection hub, which is now operational. Co-located networks at Digital Realty can now access low-latency peering services through a dedicated cross connect directly into LINX Accra, facilitating faster and more efficient data exchange across the region.
“We are fortunate to have highly engaged data centre partners here in Ghana. Building Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in new regions relies heavily on strong partnerships. Our data centre collaborators are crucial to our success, and during installation, we work closely to ensure security compliance, efficiency, and knowledge sharing throughout the process,” said Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX.
The launch of LINX Accra represents a milestone as Ghana’s first internet exchange point, offering scalable, future-proof solutions to expand the digital ecosystem in West Africa. It is LINX’s third location in Africa, joining LINX Nairobi and LINX Mombasa, underscoring a strategic move to improve regional internet infrastructure and connectivity across the continent.
