The Ministère Délégué chargé de l’Economie Numérique et de l’Innovation (MDENI) of Djibouti recently convened a high-level working session to advance the country’s cybersecurity efforts.
Chaired under the auspices of Minister Mariam Hamadou Ali, the meeting brought together key officials including the General Secretariat led by Abdallah Ibrahim and the newly appointed Director General of the National Cyber Security Authority (ANC), Abdallah Ibrahim Yonis. This gathering marked a pivotal step in the formal launch of the ANC, an initiative recently endorsed by the President to bolster Djibouti’s national digital security and resilience.
During the session, participants evaluated the progress of existing cybersecurity projects and identified strategic priorities aligned with Djibouti’s Smart Nation Roadmap and Vision 2035. The discussions also took into account Djibouti’s recent accession to the Hanoi International Agreement, a move aimed at enhancing global cooperation in the fight against cybercrime.
A major development was the handover of advanced technological infrastructure to the ANC, aimed at boosting its operational capacity. The Ministry presented high-performance incident response computers, international-standard firewalls and network security solutions, high-capacity servers for sensitive data processing, operational monitoring screens, and professional cybersecurity licenses. These resources are expected to significantly improve Djibouti’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond effectively to cyber threats.
Further emphasising capacity building, the Ministry allocated twenty Coursera licenses to train government officials in critical areas such as network security, incident management, malware analysis, risk assessment, and protection of essential infrastructure. Minister Hamadou Ali highlighted that cybersecurity is fundamental to safeguarding Djibouti’s digital sovereignty and is vital for developing a resilient, competitive digital economy.
