iColo has played a vital role in supporting the recent cooperative transition between LINX and Asteroid Kenya.
Announced in September 2025, this initiative aims to migrate LINX and Asteroid customers in Mombasa and Nairobi to LINX’s interconnection hubs in Kenya, ahead of Asteroid Kenya ceasing operations at the end of 2025.
The transition primarily involves customer networks hosted at iColo’s facilities — Mombasa One (MBA1) in Miritini and Mombasa Two (MBA2) in Nyali — making iColo’s infrastructure essential to ensuring a smooth migration process.
“The support of our partners iColo in this project is crucial, and we are grateful for such a close and collaborative relationship. We share the vision of enhancing interconnection and digital infrastructure in Kenya — always with a focus on delivering excellent services and building strong relationships,” said Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX.
The teams from LINX and Asteroid are working diligently to provide a seamless experience, with many networks already live and peering at LINX’s Mombasa and Nairobi interconnection hubs. Nimpuno noted the positive progress, highlighting that Kenyan networks are increasingly joining LINX, gaining access to a broad suite of interconnection services, and strengthening Kenya’s position as a major East African digital hub.
iColo’s carrier-neutral data centres continue to be instrumental in LINX’s expansion across Kenya. Mombasa’s strategic location, connected by seven submarine cables linking it to Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, reinforces its importance as an international connectivity hub.
“We are excited to support LINX in this important evolution. Our partnership has already delivered strong results in Nairobi and Mombasa, and we look forward to enabling further growth and innovation in East Africa’s digital ecosystem,” said Marcel Louw, Managing Director for Africa at Digital Realty.
