ST Digital has officially inaugurated its first data centre in Ivory Coast, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital development.
Situated within the VITIB technology free zone in Grand-Bassam, the facility aims to play a central role in advancing Ivory Coast’s digital sovereignty agenda by providing secure, high-performance cloud infrastructure for both public and private sector organisations across the region.
The data centre, constructed in collaboration with cloud computing provider OVHcloud and supported by the Ivorian Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalisation, is built to Tier III standards and operates locally. This facility is designed to meet the growing digital transformation needs of Ivorian businesses and institutions, ensuring reliable and sovereign cloud services.
Sylvie Houlière Mayca, OVHcloud’s managing director for France, Belux, Africa, and the Middle East, emphasised the importance of digital sovereignty, stating that it is defined by having control over one’s digital destiny. She expressed pride in partnering with ST Digital, whose project aligns with the shared vision of establishing a sovereign cloud infrastructure that does not compromise on quality, security, or performance.
Anthony Same, CEO of ST Digital, highlighted that the opening of the Abidjan data centre represents a major step forward for Ivory Coast and the wider West African digital landscape. He underscored that the partnership with OVHcloud enables ST Digital to leverage global expertise while maintaining strategic independence. Same emphasised the company’s ambition to offer tailored, secure, high-performance solutions that prioritise sovereignty and meet the region’s unique digital requirements.
This new facility is set to be a cornerstone in the region’s journey toward digital self-reliance, supporting the digital transformation ambitions of Ivory Coast and reinforcing its position as a digital hub in West Africa.
