Digital Realty announced the launch of ACR2, its first data centre in Ghana, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s growing digital economy.
Located in Accra amid a dense network of fibre routes and subsea cables, including direct access to the 2Africa cable system, ACR2 is set to become a vital hub that connects Ghana to global markets and provides businesses with highly connected infrastructure. The facility offers carrier-neutral colocation services with an anticipated 1.7 megawatts of installed IT capacity.
The strategic location and extensive connectivity options of ACR2 aim to support the evolving demands of enterprises, financial institutions, telecommunications companies, and government organisations. The data centre is designed to bolster connectivity and interconnection, laying a strong foundation for digital growth and innovation across various sectors. Additionally, ACR2 is built to support data sovereignty requirements, ensuring trusted and compliant hosting for critical financial and digital services, according to Joseph Koranteng, managing director for Digital Realty in Ghana.
“From banking to fintech to telcos, our goal is simple: keep data secure locally, while keeping businesses globally connected,” said Koranteng.
He added that ACR2 offers the reliability, compliance, and connectivity that banks, fintech firms, telcos, and cloud providers require. Koranteng also highlighted that Ghanaian enterprises will now have access to infrastructure quality comparable to that available in major markets such as London, Amsterdam, or Johannesburg, all without leaving Accra.
Digital Realty has to date invested US$2 billion on the continent, with a presence in Africa includes Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Ghana is not a prominent data centre market, but is growing rapidly. Existing operators in the country include Equinix, Onix, and PAIX.
