Transnet, South Africa’s state-owned enterprise responsible for rail, ports, and pipelines, is making significant strides in its digital transformation journey as it prepares for a future rooted in hybrid cloud technology.
The company recently announced the completion of a private cloud data centre in Durban, complemented by a colocation facility in Gauteng established in partnership with mobile operator Vodacom. This development follows closely on the heels of Transnet’s recent migration of its enterprise resource planning system from ECC 6.0 to SAP S4/HANA, highlighting its commitment to modernising its core systems.
Despite facing operational and financial hurdles in recent years, Transnet remains a strategic asset, dedicated to upgrading the country’s logistics network and boosting efficiency. The new facilities are expected to modernise its data centre and hosting capabilities, enabling the organisation to better navigate the increasingly complex digital landscape with resilient, secure infrastructure capable of supporting next-generation business applications.
