Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), has reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure through significant expansion of its national fibre network and state-of-the-art data centres.
Speaking at the West Africa Digital Forum, held as part of the 18th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV 2025), organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with UNDESA and UN-EGOV, Adeyanju highlighted recent achievements and future plans.
He noted that GBB, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE), has already laid over 5,000 kilometres of fibre across 28 states. Under the “Project Bridge” initiative, there are plans to deploy an additional 90,000 kilometres of fibre to connect underserved and unserved communities, thereby improving national connectivity and promoting digital inclusion.
Furthermore, Adeyanju emphasised GBB’s ongoing investments in two advanced data centres designed to provide secure, reliable hosting and business continuity solutions for government agencies and private sector organisations. He reiterated GBB’s dedication to collaborating with both local and international partners to deepen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, foster economic growth, and position the country as a leading digital hub in Africa.
