The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations in Ghana announced a productive meeting with Group Vivendi Africa (GVA), during which Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP) expressed strong backing for GVA’s upcoming commercial rollout of high-speed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) internet services.
The initiative aims to deliver affordable, unlimited broadband connectivity to Ghanaian households, starting in Accra and Kumasi, with plans to expand across the country.
Minister Nartey George praised GVA’s proposed pricing model as a revolutionary move aligned with the government’s objectives of expanding digital inclusion and lowering data costs nationwide. He committed to engaging relevant authorities, including the Minister for Energy and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to address infrastructure access challenges and facilitate a smooth deployment process.
He encouraged GVA to submit a detailed proposal outlining its investment strategy, service offerings, and specific areas where government support may be needed. Additionally, the Minister suggested exploring a strategic partnership with Canal+ to bundle high-speed internet with premium content streaming, which could transform Ghana’s pay-TV and broadband markets.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting credible investors like GVA who are contributing to the country’s digital development and connectivity goals.
CEO Jean-François Dubois of GVA, a subsidiary of Canal+ Group operating in nine African nations, outlined the company’s vision to provide affordable, unlimited broadband services to Ghanaian consumers. He emphasised GVA’s successful track record of deploying mass-market fibre solutions in other markets and expressed confidence in replicating that success in Ghana, starting with Accra and Kumasi. The upcoming launch is seen as a key step toward enhancing digital access and fostering economic growth through improved connectivity.
