Raxio Group has unveiled a new facility in Angola, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital development.

Located in Cacuaco, just outside Luanda, the 3MW data centre is designed to serve as a cornerstone for Angola’s growing technology sector. Covering 19,000 square meters (approximately 204,515 square feet), the facility can host up to 800 racks, making it the largest data centre in the country to date.

CEO Robert Skjødt described the launch as a transformative moment for Angola, emphasising that the new infrastructure is about more than just hardware. It aims to create opportunities, foster local innovation, empower entrepreneurs, and leverage Angola’s strategic geolocation to position the nation as a regional technology hub. The $30 million investment represents Raxio’s sixth data centre and is part of its broader expansion across Africa. Announced in January 2023 and with construction beginning in September of the same year, the company plans to increase the site’s capacity to 7MW within five years.

Maria Miguel Pinto, Raxio Angola’s general manager, highlighted that the new facility would enable faster, more reliable internet services while laying the groundwork for Angola’s future competitiveness and digital independence. The site features sustainable design elements, including an on-site water treatment plant that recycles and reuses water for non-potable functions such as cooling, aligning with environmentally conscious practices.

Angola’s Minister of Telecommunications, Mário Oliveira, expressed strong support for the project, calling Raxio Angola a major leap forward for the country’s digital economy. He noted that the investment aligns with Angola’s vision of becoming a regional leader in technology, offering tangible benefits for both its people and its business community.
