The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has launched a new platform, Investopedia, aimed at attracting both domestic and international investment into Nigeria’s sub-national infrastructure projects and addressing the country’s estimated $100 billion annual financing shortfall.
The platform is designed to be a transparent ‘one-stop shop’ offering comprehensive details on investment opportunities across Nigeria’s 36 states, providing prospective investors with clear entry points and project information.
NGF chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, described Investopedia as a “strategic tool to unlock Nigeria’s full potential by mobilising global and African capital for critical infrastructure.” He emphasised that the platform is more than just an investment catalogue; it is envisioned as a gateway that combines opportunities with guidance and institutional oversight, ensuring a structured approach to attracting investment.
The initiative is supported through partnerships with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI). NGF’s Director-General, Abdulateef Shittu, hailed the launch as a ‘new dawn’ for sub-national investment readiness, highlighting that Nigeria attracted only USD1.87 billion in foreign direct investment in 2023 — significantly below Africa’s average. He explained that by curating a pipeline of bankable projects, Investopedia aims to boost investor confidence and elevate Nigeria’s visibility on the global stage.
Shittu also emphasised that the platform’s role extends beyond mere funding; it will foster technical partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies. He stressed that the focus is on delivering actionable, bankable projects that promote job creation, inclusive growth, and sustainable prosperity for Nigeria’s communities.
