Gabon has officially commenced construction of a groundbreaking data centre in the Nkok Special Economic Zone, a thriving multi-sectoral industrial park located 27km from Libreville.
Supported by the Ministry of the Digital Economy and led by pan-African digital services provider ST Digital, this ambitious project aims to foster digital independence and diversify Gabon’s economy, which has traditionally depended heavily on resource extraction.
The new data centre is expected to be operational within five months and is poised to serve as a key pillar for establishing a more resilient, modern digital infrastructure. While specific details regarding its power capacity remain undisclosed, the facility will provide sovereign cloud services, ensuring that sensitive data remains within Gabon’s borders. This localisation of data is designed to enhance security and operational efficiency for critical sectors such as finance, healthcare, and education.
Local reports indicate that the data centre aims to stimulate innovation and improve Gabon’s competitiveness, positioning the country as an attractive destination for foreign investment. Additionally, ST Digital’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmentally sustainable practices aligns with Gabon’s broader sustainability ambitions, supporting a greener digital future.
ST Digital, recognised as a pioneer in secure sovereign cloud solutions across French-speaking Africa, operates data centre infrastructure in Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Togo, Congo, and Gabon. Its Côte d’Ivoire project is scheduled for launch in the last quarter of 2025, further demonstrating the company’s regional expansion and commitment to enabling secure, localised digital services across the continent.
