During the 6th Italy-Algeria Business Forum in Rome, Sparkle and Algérie Télécom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a new subsea cable linking the two countries.
The agreement, announced in the presence of Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, marks a significant step toward strengthening digital ties between Europe and North Africa. Under the MoU, Sparkle will collaborate with Algérie Télécom to build the submarine cable, offering high-capacity, low-latency connectivity designed to meet the growing digital demands of both nations.
Beyond laying the cable, Sparkle will provide a suite of value-added services including cybersecurity, cloud computing solutions, technical support for data centre development, and training on key technical topics. Additionally, Sparkle will establish a dedicated point of presence in Europe for Algérie Télécom, further supporting Algeria’s digital transformation ambitions.
This new cable will deliver a high-capacity route to Europe with ultra-low latency and full redundancy, offering a significant upgrade over existing infrastructure. It aims to enhance internet performance, support digital content proliferation, and provide a resilient, high-quality connectivity experience for consumers and businesses across Algeria.

The Italy-Algeria Business Forum aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as energy, innovation, education, agriculture, and culture. It aligns with Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, which seeks to foster balanced, mutually beneficial partnerships based on respect and shared growth.
