Korean technology giant Naver has announced plans to develop a state-of-the-art AI data centre in Morocco, marking a significant expansion of its cloud and AI infrastructure across the EMEA region.
Joining forces with AI technology leader Nvidia, infrastructure specialist Nexus Core Systems, and global investment firm Lloyd Capital, the consortium aims to create a 500MW renewable energy-powered data centre designed to serve sovereign AI computing needs.
Morocco was chosen as the site for its strategic geographical advantages — being just 15km from Europe and connected via multiple submarine optical cables — facilitating efficient and secure data transmission across continents. Naver explained that these factors, alongside the country’s growing reputation as a regional tech hub, influenced the decision to establish the facility there.
Naver Cloud will serve as the platform operator alongside Nexus Core Systems and Lloyd Capital, with the goal of delivering integrated AI services and applications through an advanced cloud platform. A key aspect of the project is ensuring data sovereignty; Naver intends to develop a sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure capable of independently managing all data-related processes locally, from storage to processing and operational control.
The project’s first phase is set to commence in Q4 2025, focusing on constructing a 40MW AI supercomputing infrastructure. This initial setup will feature Nvidia’s latest Blackwell (GB200) GPUs, similar to those used in recent Armenian projects. The subsequent stages will see the capacity expanded up to 500MW, providing a scalable foundation for regional AI and cloud services.
To support the project’s sustainability and stability, the consortium has secured a renewable energy supply contract with TAQA, an international power producer headquartered in the UAE. This strategic partnership ensures the data centre will operate on clean, reliable energy, aligning with global efforts toward sustainable tech infrastructure development.
