Teraco, a subsidiary of Digital Realty, has announced the successful completion of its eighth data centre, JB5, located at its Isando campus in South Africa.
This major development enhances the site’s capabilities, increasing its total critical power capacity to 70MW and reinforcing its position as a leading hyperscale data centre provider in Africa.
Built to meet the highest standards demanded by global hyperscale operators, JB5 exemplifies Teraco’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. The facility features an advanced closed-loop chilled water system with 100% free air cooling, enabling continuous cooling without water consumption — an environmentally friendly innovation supporting water conservation.
Constructed in a single phase, JB5 comprises twelve data halls, each spanning 1,000 square meters, within a total building footprint of 55,000 square meters. The data centre is powered by a robust 120MVA utility power supply, ensuring it can meet the increasing demand from cloud providers, enterprises, and digital service providers across Africa.
This expansion aligns with Teraco’s strategic goal to support Africa’s digital transformation and data sovereignty initiatives by providing scalable, reliable infrastructure to support both local and global clients. The new facility underscores Teraco’s role in enabling Africa’s digital future through cutting-edge, sustainable data centre solutions.
