Africa Data Centres, a division of Cassava Technologies, has announced the successful installation of a self-cooling rack by Gold Synergy at its CPT1 data centre in Cape Town.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in advancing high-density computing solutions across Africa and underscores Africa Data Centres’ dedication to sustainable and efficient infrastructure.
Commissioned in January 2025, the self-cooling rack is engineered to support the growing demand for high-performance computing while reducing energy consumption. As the region faces increasing power and cooling challenges driven by artificial intelligence, big data, and enterprise workloads, self-contained cooling technologies like this provide a smart, scalable, and environmentally friendly solution.
Gold Synergy, known for its expertise in advanced cooling systems, contributed to this deployment, demonstrating the effectiveness of self-cooling racks under African conditions. This project paves the way for broader adoption of such innovative solutions aligned with regional ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) objectives.
“Our partnership with Gold Synergy introduces new efficiencies in high-density hosting,” said Adil El Youssefi, CEO of Africa Data Centres. “By integrating this cutting-edge cooling technology at CPT1, we are establishing a model for how African data centres can scale intelligently while adhering to global sustainability standards. This successful deployment positions both Africa Data Centres and Gold Synergy to expand CDU-based cooling solutions across the continent, supporting Africa’s increasing need for next-generation infrastructure.”
“Our self-cooling rack approach is a game-changer for high-density computing environments. This deployment reflects our shared commitment to energy efficiency and operational excellence,” said Fortune Utubor, Executive at Gold Synergy.
This deployment not only enhances the hosting capacity of CPT1 without major infrastructure changes but also reinforces Africa Data Centres’ position as the continent’s leading carrier-neutral data centre provider. Additionally, the innovative cooling solution reduces reliance on traditional systems and offers operational cost savings for both clients and facility operators.
