The Data Protection Authority of Somalia (DPA) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Abuja.
The agreement aims to promote bilateral efforts to enhance data security, increase public awareness, and build institutional capacity for data governance in both nations.
The MoU was signed by Mohamed Nur Ali (Eng Olow), Director General of Somalia’s DPA, and Dr. Vincent Olatunji, CEO of Nigeria’s NDPC. Both leaders underscored the importance of regional cooperation and coordinated actions to address challenges related to data privacy and protection.
This partnership also paves the way for structured training programs, knowledge sharing initiatives, and joint efforts to combat data breaches and safeguard citizens’ personal information. The focus is on increasing staff skills and fostering collaborative efforts to strengthen data security frameworks.
Nur Ali highlighted the need for African data protection authorities to establish clear cooperation frameworks, emphasizing that such measures are essential for strengthening legal, technical, and awareness mechanisms to promote effective data governance across the continent.
