The Comorian authorities announced the upcoming inauguration of the national data centre, scheduled for 19 May.
This Tier 3 facility, co-managed by the National Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN) and Comores Cable, boasts a hosting capacity of 44.4Tb and is designed to securely host digital platforms for both the government and private sector. It will also centralize public data in accordance with international standards.
The new data centre aims to reduce the country’s reliance on foreign infrastructure, improve administrative efficiency, and promote cost savings. It will enhance the interoperability of public services, enable the pooling of IT resources, and support the implementation of key projects such as digital identity systems and e-service portals.
This initiative is part of the national ‘Comoros Numérique 2028’ strategy, which seeks to increase the contribution of digital technology to the country’s GDP to 5% by the end of the year. The project requires a budget of approximately 21 billion Comorian francs (around $47.8 million), with 59% financed by the government, 5% by the private sector, and 36% through public-private partnerships. In 2024, the African Development Bank (AfDB) allocated about €9.51 million to support the Digital Economy Support Project in Comoros.
The new infrastructure is expected to serve as a catalyst for attracting further investments in digital technology and creating skilled employment opportunities. By 2028, the Comorian authorities aim to generate 5,272 direct jobs through digital initiatives, leveraging the new data centre as a key driver of national digital transformation.
