The government of Cape Verde has officially inaugurated Tech Park Cape Verde (TechPark CV), marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation agenda.
Designed as a centre of excellence for technology companies, the park aims to position Cape Verde as the ‘Tech Islands of West Africa,’ serving as a regional hub that connects West Africa, Europe, and the Americas through digital services and innovation.
TechPark CV features fully equipped facilities, including a data centre, disaster recovery site, business centre, incubation hub, civic event space, and training and qualification centres across two campuses — one in Praia on Santiago Island and another in Mindelo on São Vicente Island. The park’s strategic focus is to promote emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, fintech, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT), supported by strong government backing and attractive tax incentives.
As a designated Special Economic Zone for Technologies (ZEET), TechPark CV offers benefits such as VAT and import tax exemptions, along with a reduced corporate tax rate of 2.5% for eligible companies. The EUR51.85 million project was developed in two phases, with EUR45.5 million financed by the African Development Bank. Since beginning operations in 2023, the park has rapidly developed into a thriving technology hub.
Currently hosting 23 companies from seven countries and employing 311 young professionals, the park has achieved full occupancy of its 52 office spaces and has the capacity to host up to 1,500 workers. Its infrastructure is designed to nurture tech enterprises, foster collaboration with academic institutions, and generate employment opportunities for local talent.
The park’s training programs have expanded significantly — from six in 2023 to 50 in the first quarter of 2025 — upskilling 2,769 individuals in advanced fields such as AI, cybersecurity, and software development.
The inauguration event drew over 100 international firms, including major global players like Intel, Microsoft, and Smart Africa, alongside hundreds of government officials, entrepreneurs, and academics. In line with its regional strategy, TechPark CV will also collaborate with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to promote innovation and technological development across the West African region.
